Modular Western Town

We’re joining Eurobricks, Brickset and The Brothers-Brick in promoting marshal_banana’s Modular Western Town on CUUSOO. Help us help him get to the 10,000 votes needed to go through LEGO’s review stage, and potentially be produced as a set.

Interview – Hoexbroe

We’re back to interviews this month, and this time we have none other than Henrik Hoexbroe. Henrik is a member of Eurobricks, and has accounts on Brickshelf, flickr and MOCPages. Thanks to Henrik for taking his time and agreeing to this interview.

Classic-Town.net: Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? How long have you been building with LEGO?

Henrik Hoexbroe: I was originally born in Denmark in 1967, and moved to Spain in 1999.

I grew up with Lego, getting my frist set at the age of two, during a visit to the -then brand new- Legoland in Billund. During my whole childhood, Lego was always my favorite toy. Dark ages set in at the beginning of adolesence, but I did have a short “fall-back” at the time when the Minifig was first introduced.
The love for Lego was never forgotten though, so I later studied to become a “plastics engineer” and visited the production plant in Billund – and later worked for a company that supplied certain machinery to the Lego factory.

So it wasnt until 20 years later, at around 2003, when my first daughter was old enough to receive her very first Duplo blocks, that I got back in contact with Lego toys.

Soon, when my daughter was old enough to use “real” Lego blocks, the monthly -or weekly- acquisitions could no longer be explained and excused as being solely for her. Continue reading

LUG Showcase: KLUG

Classic-Town.net is an ever-changing blog, and some of those changes take time. Unfortunately, that happened to mean that there was a lull in blogging this past month. A number of us were at Brickworld, where we were able to discuss how we want to move forward. There are a lot of exciting ideas in the works. Here is one of the ideas, a LUG Showcase.

We were fortunate enough to meet up with the members of KLUG, the Kenosha LEGO Users Group, at Brickworld. KLUG is new to the LUG scene, so between rounds of Heroica we decided to ask some questions that could help others trying to form a LUG. They aren’t just great people – they’re great builders, too. A number of their MOCs were nominated for awards at Brickworld. Unlike many other LUGs, KLUG is not entirely age-exclusive, with members welcoming their children to display MOCs alongside them. Marin Stipkovic: I’m 21 and have been building with LEGO since I was 1 and didn’t really have a dark age. I live, work and am getting ready to study classical double bass (contrabass) in Zagreb, Croatia. I have two brothers, Dan and Lenard, who are also AFOLs.

CT: How does having two brothers who are AFOLs affect your LEGO experience? Continue reading

Interview – Mad Physicist

Welcome Classic-Town.net readers! Today we’re presenting something new to you – interviews with Town and Train builders. We’d appreciate your feedback. What would you like to see? What don’t you like? Let us know in the comments.

Our first interview is with well known Town builder Mad Physicist. Ralph Savelsberg is active on flickr and Eurobricks.

Mad Physicist: I was interviewed for LAML radio a couple of years ago and was called an English builder. However, I only used to live there! I am actually from the Netherlands and have returned there. I’m a physicist, as my nickname on flickr indicates. I’ve been building pretty much as long as I remember, starting with Duplo, and I kept building ever since. Continue reading
