Back to Classic-Town

March 9th, 2010

Let’s take a small break from ‘Modular March’ and a return to Classic Town with these Japanese ‘Kei cars’ by Masahiro Yanagi. Kei cars are a special Japanese small vehicle category. Masahiro built over a dozen of these to show the variety of cars produced in this category that – according to Wikipedia at least – is so popular in Japan because of relaxed tax and insurance regulations. There, you actually learned something today, while looking at LEGO MOCs!

But 4-wide isn’t all that Masahiro builds. Be sure to check out the extensive collection of 6- and 8-wide cars and trucks and as a bonus, this über-cute ‘tricycle truck’.

Sidney’s Svelte Spanish Style

March 8th, 2010

He may come from Sidney, but Dita Svelte sure knows his Spanish architecture – did you actually know there was a whole district in his town full of buildings such as this one? In commemorating “Modular March”, as it’s already being dubbed by City fans across Eurobricks, he’s chosen to build a delightful apartment complex.

Si te gusta tomar el sol, you should definitely try my sunscreen lotion!

Svelte has stayed true to the clean, fresh Colonial Revival style and added just about enough eye candy to come as close to the original as possible without making this sweet complex look tacky. And to me, the lack of excess gaudiness here surely comes as a breath of fresh air.

A Bad Day For Luigi Carbonara

March 7th, 2010

But most definitely a good one for Eliot Ness. Pawel (better known as Kris_Kelvin) has put his favourite dark red + brown colour combination to good use once again.

That’s the kind of stuff you end up building when you’re fighting for an Exclusive set against fellow Polish brickmasters. As to me, I don’t speak Polish – so… I think I’ll have a drink.

Modular Factory

March 7th, 2010

Some time ago, we presented to you these parts trolleys by MdrnMrvls. Now, he completes the accompanying factory building. It doesn’t have an exterior full of architectural detailing like many modular MOCs these days. But hey, it’s a factory buiding! It’s all about function over form. And in terms of function it has all the essentials: work stations, an assembly line, and a truck load area. Speaking of which, who’s hiding in that truck?

IZ Emporium

March 6th, 2010

Dutch Lego Ambassador Sebastiaan Arts, better known as Aliencat, jumps on the department store bandwagon and creates his own ‘bigger, better, more’ version of Lego’s recently released Grand Emporium set. His IZ Emporium measures 60 studs wide, has four fully furnished floors, and features clothing, leather (I’ll leave it up to your own imagination what gets sold there), and hats departments. The top floor is occupied by a fashionable catwalk and a cafe conveniently placed next to each other. Another great feature is the alley behind the department store, which is perfectly suitable for all things that do not deserve to see the light of day.

More Green… And More Trucks.

March 6th, 2010

I am a huge fan of green, I admit. And like most guys out there, I definitely enjoy trucks. So obviously, the combination of those two instantly rings the blogger bell in my head – especially when there’s double of both. These two heavyweight monsters made the rounds about a week ago, just after our last truck blogging frenzy – which definitely called for a slight break, otherwise we might as well have rebranded to Classic-Trucks.net. Now, however, I’m sure that all truck fanatics out there are hungry for more – so here they come.

First is Maciej Drwiega with his V8-powered Peterbilt 359 logging truck straight out of the forests of Twin Peaks:

Damn good coff... truck!

Damn good coff... truck!

And if you’d rather have some heavy industry machinery, this should definitely grab your attention – it’s a civilian Consolidated Faran built by Aleksandar Stein, who’s obviously quite a truck fan himself.

Got muscle?

Got muscle?

I am not really sure which one of both has a tougher job to do, but I’m positive that these are by far the strongest-looking green MOCs I’ve ever seen.

Tugging Along

March 5th, 2010

Normally I’m not huge on mini/microscale vehicles (“zomg, check out teh supa cool wartohg!!1″), but every now and then someone builds a micro MOC that really fascinates me. In this case, that’s French soon-to-be-architect Pierre Fieschi whose weirdly unique MOCs I’ve been enjoying for quite some time.

There's the Tugboat - now how about a ship to go along with her?

And finally, now there’s a City-themed creation of his that I can actually blog – it may not be as big as his Maintenance Unit or as zany as his various Space MOCs, but it’s surely one of the cutest and most successful microscale designs I’ve seen lately.

Diverse City

March 4th, 2010

I was recently wondering why all Modulars seem to be at least three floors high with an added semi-functionality of the roof structure… And while I was busy pondering whether some more variation in shapes and sizes would not be a good idea for the new City fad, matyo was obviously busy building his diverse modulars.

blaaablablah

Definitely Art Nouveau. Definitely thumbs up.

Matyo’s gallery of buildings will show you just what I mean – why settle for the same ol’ concept when you can go from detailed to simple and from big to tiny while shaping your town?

Review: Grand Emporium

Eurobricks Reviewers Academy teacher Svelte shares an in-depth and entertaining review of Lego’s most recent modular building, set 10211, Grand Emporium.

Venomous Beauty

March 2nd, 2010

Brickshelf and Flickr user Ricardo Prates (a.k.a. Biczzz) has been building cars for quite some time now. His latest achievement however is yet another proof that LEGO elements can be used to recreate all kinds of curvy forms. Here is the result:

blahjghghghahh

Tons of NPU here has ensured a very warm reception for this beauty

This Portuguese MOCcer must be really proud of his work. The Shelby Cobra is a gorgeous vehicle and it’s definitely worth owning one of these babies – even if it’s only built out of bricks.
