What a Dashing Diesel!

February 9th, 2010

ToT LUGger and fellow Eurobricks Town & Train addict Davey must surely enjoy General Electric’s diesel locomotives – he’s built a marvellous model of the Dash-8 40B and even supplied it with two 9V motors to ensure that his LEGO version pulls like a beast, same as the original 4000-hp diesel monster.

All the SNOT techniques Dave has used here certainly help capture the train’s unique look and turn this into a top-notch MOC! I personally am looking forward to seeing pictures of Dave’s next locomotive sometime next month.

Modular Market Village

February 8th, 2010

Eurobricks newcomer sonicstarlight ‘modularizes’ the legendary Medieval Market Village. The exterior certainly maintains the look of the orginal Lego set with the tudor style walls and the red and blue awnings of the ground floor bar. Even the rooster included in the set gets a new job as a weather vane. The interior includes some very nice and original elements like a bar, a dartboard, a jukebox, and a foosball table. Leave all your comments in the Eurobricks Town forum.

Hot (& Shiny) Wheels

February 8th, 2010

Trust me, you’d be hard-pressed to find more hot wheels in one MOC. Dutch expert bricksonwheels has started 2010 in style – by building this beautiful 1:17 replica of a heavily-chromed Peterbilt 359 car carrier which even has its corresponding trailer attached to it… and a couple of hot cars, in case you don’t believe it’s meant to do a job rather than be stared at.

What's your pick - the cars or the truck?

What's your pick - the cars or the truck?

Stare and drool, however, is all I can do. And it’s quite understandable, seeing as this heavyweight beauty features detailed work on its engine, body and interior… And I think it’s safe to say that its raw beauty does definitely overshadow the Italian charm of the Ferrari and Lambo it’s carrying (and we’re not even talking about torque or horsepower here).

Old McDonald Had A Restaurant

February 7th, 2010

And it’s a place we’ve all been to… Brickshelf user neodymium-boy has built one of the most common everyday sights – and done it in style too!

Sunroof over at McDonald's... neat!

Would you like an apple pie with that?

This little restaurant features an opening skylight roof and is fully equipped with all the burgers and beverages you’d expect to find at a regular fast food restaurant. So hurry up and go get a Big Mac – unless you’re worried about your health, that is… Oh, and for the record: I just love the lettering technique – simplicity at its best!

Service Station With A Classic Design

February 7th, 2010

While perusing the Eurobricks Forums, I stumbled across a creation by Eurobricks user Sens1992 that oozes Classic Town goodness.  It’s a simple service station modeled after one of the newer Texaco service stations.  While I’ve seen a number of LEGO service stations in my day, its the details in this MOC that really make it stand out to me.  There’s the glass roof built using SNOT techniques.  The tiled floor in the convenience store area.  And the gas pump design could have found it’s way into a 1980’s LEGO set with no problem.  For me, this is the essence of Classic Town design.  It’s simple…yet packs in a whole bunch of little details that add to the playability.

I’m sure Sens1992 would appreciate feedback on this new MOC over on Eurobricks.  You can also find more pictures on his Flickr Photostream.

Dem Deutschen Volke

February 6th, 2010

Brickshelf user sheep must probably live in the “multi-kulti” hub of European cultures, Berlin. Otherwise I just can’t see how he knows local landmarks such as the Brandenburger Tor or the Siegessäule in such fine detail.

Das Reichstag

Der Reichstag... and Norman Foster's addition to it.

And with his latest creation, this builder has provided some stiff competition for Eurobricks microscale master Legostein and his equally awesome mini Reichstag:

Transparent Politics - an oxymoron, perhaps?

Transparent Politics... An oxymoron, perhaps?

I guess these two just go to show that the smaller the scale, the greater the expertise required to pull it off. Mini-hats off!

An educational visit to the Pig Farm

February 6th, 2010

Taming The Wild West

February 5th, 2010

Over the last few weeks, the Wild Wild West has become a true force to be reckoned with. With more and more distinguished builders trying their hand at coming up with Western creations and an actively ongoing petition for the return of the short-lived Western series by LEGO, it is no wonder that we have also decided to continue bringing you the latest and greatest MOCs from the Western side.

Got wood?

Got wood?

What we had however been missing so far among all the saloons and bars was something to remind us of the frontier spirit of those times. Enter Etzel’s “Rocky Mountain Log Cabin” – a beautiful throwback to an old favourite, the Rocky River Retreat, with much more to it than meets the eye. Now we’re not so sure anymore whether we want to live in the big city or would rather go backpacking in the woods and live like this here trapper and his family…

G2000BB V202 Ruhrtalbahn Diesel Engine

February 5th, 2010

The G2000BB is a popular and successful diesel engine currently in use in a number of configurations across Europe and beyond. This particular model is shown with the Vossloh Locomotives logo of it’s manufacturer and Ruhrtalbahn markings to indicate that it is in service in Germany.

Ready to Roll

All Aboard!

Eurobricks member michaelozzie brings us his version of this workhorse in his skillfully constructed and decorated MOC. Visit the discussion topic to see all of the fine details and even a stunning comparison shot that will have you wondering which came first, the MOC or the real thing.

Canadian Utility Truck

February 5th, 2010

Inspired by Lego set 3179 Repair Truck Eurobricks newcomer ’slacker int’ (Adam Vulstick on MOCpages) presents this Hydro Utility Truck. The truck is modeled after utility trucks seen in Ontario, Canada, is 7 studs wide in the back and features stabilizers, some orange striping, and a realistic boom with nice brick-built striping. You can see more pictures and leave your comments on this MOC in the Eurobricks Town forum.
